Coldplay has released “Atlas,” the band’s new song from the soundtrack of the upcoming film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Accompanying the track is a lyric video that follows a shooting star as it makes its way through the universe, stopping along the route at various constellations in the zodiac. This marks the first time Coldplay has recorded an original song for a motion picture, and it also their first new tune since the release of the band’s fifth album, Mylo Xyloto, in 2011.
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is apparently a fan of the Hunger Games books, which have 50 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be released worldwide on November 22nd. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson,Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland.
Coldplay has been off the road since completing the touring cycle last year for Mylo Xyloto, with the band reportedly prepping its sixth studio album for release sometime in early 2014.
