The Killers have announced that they will release a greatest hits package called Direct Hits on November 11th. The set will contain all the singles from their four studio albums to date, including “Mr. Brightside,” “Somebody Told Me,” “All These Things That I’ve Done,” “When You Were Young,” “Human” and “Runaways,” along with two new songs called “Just Another Girl” and “Shot At The Night.” The latter track was produced by Anthony Gonzalez, a.k.a. M83, and is available online now.
A “Fan Deluxe Edition” of the package will include the original demo of “Mr. Brightside,” a new remix of “When You Were Young,” a documentary DVD of the Killers’ career and all the songs from the set on five 10-inch vinyl records.
It was 10 years ago on Monday (September 16th) that the Killers played their first show outside America, appearing fourth on the bill at a gig in London.
Frontman Brandon Flowers told us a while back that the Killers had to first travel to the U.K. to land a record deal: “We were actually playing a showcase in L.A. and an English gentleman was there who works for Warner Bros. in England and he took it back to his boss and his boss turned it down, so he took it to his friend who worked at Lizard King records, this small indie label, and we ended up signing with them. So we just started going over there and eventually a lot of record labels in America wanted us.”
The band’s early success in the U.K. helped pave the way for them to come home and establish themselves in the U.S. as well.
The group’s debut album, Hot Fuss, came out in 2004, followed by Sam’s Town in 2006, Day & Agein 2008 and last year’s Battle Born.
