Pearl Jam‘s 10th studio album, Lightning Bolt, is now streaming at iTunes in its entirety one week ahead of the disc’s October 15th release date. Pearl Jam took its time making the record, coming up with material in one session back in 2012 before taking a breaking and resuming work earlier this year. Drummer Matt Cameron told us that the second session was much more successful than the first: “I guess we weren’t really excited about all the songs we had brought in. Eddie (Vedder, vocals) has to be, first and foremost, the most excited about the music that we bring in to write lyrics for, and I guess we just didn’t really hit the mark on that first session. We were all in agreement that we could definitely do better, and when the second session did roll around, you know, everyone brought in a lot of ideas.”
Lightning Bolt follows up Pearl Jam’s 2009 album Backspacer and features the singles “Mind Your Manners” and “Sirens.”
The band will launch the disc on October 15th with a pop-up store in New York City. The shop will be open for just one day and will offer other Pearl Jam items for sale in addition to the new record, including limited-edition Pearl Jam T-shirts.
Pearl Jam kicks off a North American tour on Friday (October 11th) in Pittsburgh, with the first leg ending the weekend of November 1st at the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans. The trek’s second half starts on November 15th in Dallas, wrapping on December 6th in Pearl Jam’s hometown of Seattle.
