Lorde‘s debut album, Pure Heroine, entered the Billboard album chart at Number Three on Wednesday (October 9th), selling 129,000 copies in its first week of release. The sales of the disc were undoubtedly fueled by the success of the first single, “Royals,” which has been at or near the top of the Modern Rock radio survey for weeks and recently began crossing over to other formats with great success.
Lorde is the fourth woman to see her first major-label full-length album debut in the Top 10 this year, following Ariana Grande, K. Michelle and Kacey Musgraves.
The 16-year-old New Zealand native finished on the chart behind Justin Timberlake, whose new disc The 20/20 Experience, 2 of 2 entered the chart at Number One, and Drake, whose Nothing Was The Same tumbled to second place after spending last week at the top.
Lorde begins an Australian tour on October 16th but will return to the U.S. to play a Seattle radio festival on December 3rd.
