Arcade Fire looks headed for the second Number One album of its career on the Billboard 200 album chart, as the Canadian act’s fourth studio effort, Reflektor, appears on track to sell around 135,000 copies in its first week of release. That should be enough for the October 29th release to surpass the current chart-topper, Katy Perry‘s Prism, which sold 286,000 copies in its first week but is certain to plummet in its second round on the chart.
The new Billboard 200 chart’s Top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, November 6th.
Arcade Fire’s previous album, 2010’s Grammy-winning The Suburbs, was the band’s first Number One, debuting at the top of the chart with sales of 156,000 copies. It has since sold a grand total of 776,000.
Reflektor is the first Arcade Fire release with major distribution, after a career as an independently-distributed act, and major label radio promotion.
Arcade Fire don’t have any plans to tour behind the album until next spring, but the band performed 12 songs on top of the Capitol Records building in Hollywood on Tuesday evening (October 29th) for a crowd of contest winners.
