Blink-182 singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge has written his first children’s book, titled The Lonely Astronaut On Christmas Eve, which will be published in a limited hardcover first edition of 1,000 copies. The book will come in a $50 bundle that will include a certificate of authenticity signed by DeLonge, one digital version of the book for iPad, Nook or Kindle, one “Lonely Astronaut” clear acrylic etched ornament and a limited-edition T-shirt.
Pre-orders for the book will begin on Monday (November 25th) atAngelsAndAirwaves.com, with delivery guaranteed by December 25th via premium shipping.
The story, illustrated by Mike Henry, tells the tale of a rocketeer who is spending Christmas alone on the moon when he receives a gift from some unexpected extraterrestrial friends.
DeLonge told us not long ago that he’s always had an interest in extraterrestrial life, paranormal activity and other otherworldly subjects: “In the seventh grade, I got super into just UFOS and weird paranormal stuff. I just thought it was madly interesting to me because basically all those studies and all these people talking about their experiences was letting me know that there was a much larger world out there. Even though we don’t understand what it is, at least there was something bigger than the mundane kind of minutiae of our day-to-day lives.”
DeLonge and Henry are holding a charity auction to benefit San Diego’s Rady Children’s Hospital atCharityBuzz.com. Also beginning on Monday, fans can bid on a package containing the complete 22 pages of signed original art from the book, a DeLonge signed guitar, and a meet-and-greet with DeLonge in his San Diego studio. The auction will close on December 13th.
