Fun. has posted a six-song live EP titled Before Shane Went to Bangkok: fun. Live in the USA on the band’s official website on Wednesday (December 18th). According to Rolling Stone, the digital EP was recorded on the trio’s Most Nights tour and contains songs from their 2009 debut album Aim And Ignite and 2012’s massive Some Nights CD, along with a previously unreleased track called “What the F***.” A limited edition vinyl version of the set will be available in March and is up for pre-order now.
Singer Nate Ruess said in a post, “We never thought any of this would happen. All we ever wanted (at the time) was to continue to play the wild and crazy shows that we had grown so accustomed to at the incarnation of this group. We just thought we would pick up some more fans along the way.”
He added about the EP, ” “Try to remember what a great time we had. Enjoy ‘WTF’ . . . it’s nice to see it finally catch an official light of day.”
Fun. has had a tremendous year and guitarist Jack Antonoff told us it hasn’t fully sunk in yet: “As you’re rattling through all these crazy changes and you’re racing to keep up with everything, you’re grasping at what it all means and trying to figure out how to unpack it in your head, and in my life and in my career, whether it’s the process of everything that’s happened with Some Nights or anything else that’s happened in my career, it always goes back to, it’s just about the music, it’s just about the performance.”
Some Nights has sold more than a million and a half copies since coming out in early 2012.
Lead single “We Are Young” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks and the Alternative chart for two weeks.
Fun. was nominated earlier this year for six Grammy Awards and won two in February, for Best New Artist and Song of the Year.
