I wish that in 2014 the most searched name would have been someone such as Nelson Mandela. Instead, the top searched word of 2014 entails a wine glass, tons of oil and one huge bum.
Thank you Kim Kardashian for breaking the Internet… If we look back on this year in terms of entertainment, politics, and news it wasn’t the greatest. However, we can at least be grateful for the amazing music that was released in 2014! New artists such as Hozier, Milky Chance and Vance Joy made it into the spotlight and then greats from the past such as the Arctic Monkeys, The Tragically Hip and U2 made a reappearance.
So let’s begin our list with a Canadian!
Sam Roberts - We're All In This Together
The Pixies - Here Comes Your Man
Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.
Now this song didn’t come out in 2014, however according to Danger Mouse from Broken Bells: The Gorillaz album ‘Demon Days‘ was his first and favourite album to produce. Now this is has been a good year for Danger Mouse with the success of ‘After the Disco‘. So this one is dedicated to him!
The Tragically Hip - So Hard Done By
It was a big year for The Tragically Hip as they re-entered their studio in July 2014 to begin working on a new album.
In addition, they also reissued their 1992 L.P. ‘Fully Completely‘ and announced a tour for 2015.
Royal Blood - Figure It Out
Linkin Park - Guilty All The Same
I remember walking into gate 2 at the ACC when Linkin Park’s tour manager grabbed me. He led me downstairs and said, “The guys are running about 5 min late would you like to have a quick dinner?”
I was then set up with food, desserts and even wine! So I indulged. This may sound strange, but this band knows what they are doing. Perhaps they’re on this list because they treat interviewers like gold..
Hozier - Take Me To Church
Irish singer/songwriter Hozier rose to fame this year with his self-titled debut album in September. Back in October we had him perform live in studio!
Rise Against - I Don't Want To Be Here Anymore
Mother Mother - Get Out The Way
At number 12 we have B.C. band Mother Mother who released their fifth album ‘Very Good Bad Thing‘ in November.
Against Me! - Black Me Out
U2 - The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)
U2 is back in action with their hit single ‘The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)‘ off their new album ‘Songs Of Innocence‘ released on September 9th 2014. The album was announced it was also released for free to all iTunes Store customers!
Death From Above 1979 - Trainwreck 1979
Toronto’s own Death From Above 1979 has made a comeback this year with their second album ‘The Physical World‘ I was lucky enough to interview them even though they hate being interviewed.
George Ezra - Budapest
Imagine Dragons - Radioactive
Since Imagine Dragons was the most listened to alternative album on Spotify this year, its only fitting that we play ‘Radioactive‘.
You and Me - Love Gone Wrong
From Alexisonfire to City & Colour, Dallas Green has now teamed up with Alecia Moore (Aka P!nk) to form You + Me. Together they’ve accomplished the number 1 album in Canada, number 4 in the U.S. and even scored a performance on Ellen DeGeneres!
The Arkells - Come to Light
Cage The Elephant - Come A Little Closer
This band received a call from Dave Grohl after their drummer was rushed to the hospital due to a ruptured appendix. Luckily Dave practiced their songs and substituted for the rest of their tour. What a nice guy!
The Arcade Fire - Afterlife
The Black Keys - Fever
The Arctic Monkeys - Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?
They’re cocky, British and ready to eat me alive! During my interview with The Arctic Monkeys they locked their manager out of the room so I could have an extra 20 minutes to interview them! They are true rock stars and they made number 1 on our list!
