If you’re into Australian rules football, you’ll know that it’s one of the most brutal sports on the planet. You gotta be really tough and insane to play this game—especially at the professional level. Back in 2008 and 2009, the Cobourg Lions, which are based in a suburb of Melbourne and play in the Victorian Football League, had this kid named James Keogh who could really make things happen. He was voted the team’s best first-year player and looked like he was going on to a solid career. But then he gave it all up for the ukulele.
He read a book called Bliss where he found a new name: Vance Joy. He then released a record in 2014 called Dream Your Life Away and became one of the most famous ukulele players on the planet. And when this part of his life plays itself out, he can fall back on his education. The dude’s got a law degree. Not your average Aussie rules football player, is he?
