Here’s a new use for music videos: They can be used to treat brain injuries. Researchers at the Langone Medical Centre at New York University did a study on patients who had suffered brain damage due to either and accident or illness. Because we know so little about how the brain really works, it can be hard to track a patient’s recovery. This is where music videos come in.
The study showed that by carefully following a patient’s eye movements as they watched a music video, it was possible to gain important insight on the extent of the injury and, in some cases, how to properly treat it. Who would have thought that music videos could be an important tool in assessing serious head trauma?
