Time for something from section J of the vinyl archive. There was a time in the early 90s when the Maritimes looked like it had the potential to be the new Seattle. This is where Sloan was discovered and were signed to DGC, the same label as Nirvana. Eric’s Trip, a band from Moncton, became the first Canadian band to sign to Sub Pop.
And then there was Jale, an all-girl band from Halifax who was also swept up by Sub Pop. Their debut was called Dreamcake and was released by Sub Pop on both CD and vinyl in 1994. This was a single that got some airplay across North America. It’s called “Not Happy.”
