In 1982, the Clash accepted at controversial opening slot for The Who on a tour of North America. A lot of longtime fans found this to be a bit…odd, considering that just a few years earlier, the Clash made lots of noise about leaving the old guard behind. Regardless, they took the gig and played the shows.
Some years later, Joe Strummer found the tapes of the Clash performing with The Who at Shea Stadium in New York. The date was October 13, 1982. Those tapes were eventually released on CD and vinyl under the title The Clash: Live at Shea Stadium.
