In the Rs of my personal vinyl collection, I have a lot of Ramones records. A LOT. This is a 7-inch single on the Sire label from 1977 featuring “Rockaway Beach,” single taken from their second album, Rocket to Russia. It’s all about that spot in Queens that was a favourte of bass player Dee Ramone.
Here’s why it’s significant: this single was the highest-charting Ramones song in their history. It made it all the way up to #66 on the Billboard Hot 100. You might remember it behind used in a TV commercial promoting the rebuilding of that part of New York after Hurricane Sandy.
