We are up to the U’s again in this continuous alphabetical tour of my music library—and this is a bit of an odd one. Urge Overkill was a dark band from Chicago that flew under always everyone’s radar until Quentin Tarantino decided to include a song of theirs in the soundtrack for Pulp Fiction.
He found their cover of a 1967 Neil Diamond song on a 1992 indie EP on the Touch and Go label called Stull. When it was issued as a single from Pulp Fiction in 1994, it blew up at alternative radio and even became a Top 10 hit in France. It was the biggest song of Urge Overkill’s career.
