The middle 80’s were my hardcore punk years. I couldn’t take the corporate acts of the day (Loverboy, Journey, Boston) and I certainly wasn’t going to buy into hair metal. I needed something hard, fast and very, very angry. A friend turned me on to the Taang! label out of Boston (now based out of San Diego) which was home to a bunch of hard’n’fast bands I’d never heard of before. There was Last Nights, Last Stand, Kilslug and later, the Lemonheads (the punky era of the Lemonheads, not the alt-rock darlings they later became). But my favourite was Gang Green. This was the most extreme speed metal song I’d heard up until that point. I still have it on my iPod.
