In the late 90’s when the record industry was still flush with cash, I used to get a lot of compilations from tiny indie labels. I always looked forward to a package from Matador, the indie from New York City that was actually based out of some guy’s apartment. You never, ever knew what you might hear on one of these releases.
Matador is a big deal now but back in the 90’s, they were still finding their footing. One of my favourite tracks from one of those weird little compilations came from a Boston band called Helium. This song directed me to their second album, The Magic City. It’s fantastically whimsical.
