Carleton Grant joined the Fearless Fred Show and talked about Food Truck regulations! Carleton Grant is the Director Policy and Strategic Support with the City of Toronto.
As of last Spring, the only way food trucks could serve on public streets is if they invested in a steep $5,066 permit but would still have to stay 50 linear metres away from any open restaurants which effectively bans them from the downtown core.
The next meeting to discuss the bylaws is scheduled for April 21st, until then the city staffers will look to make considerations to a few of the rules including:
- Reducing the 50 linear metre distance from open and operating restaurants
- Extending curbside operating hours in the same spot from three hours to five hours
- Offering a 6-month curbside permit at half the cost of an annual permit
