One of favorite shows on TV is Episodes, the story of a British husband-and-wife writing team who are brought to Hollywood to adopt their TV series for American television. Instead of it being true to the original premise of a crusty old headmaster at a private boys’ school, the US network turns it into a comedy about a boys’ hockey team coached by Matt LeBlanc for Friends. The compromises the writers have to make are staggering—and very, very funny.
You need to watch this show. Trust me. Which brings me to a new Fox series called Detour. It’s based on the life of Weezer frontman, Rivers Cuomo, and the time he quit rock to go to university back in the 90s. And we all know what Rivers looks like, right? For some reason, Fox has cast a British actor named Michael Sturges in the lead role, He doesn’t just have a six-pack; he’s got a full 2-4. Don’t you just love American network TV?
