There was a period in the late 90s after Britpop had played itself out when a bunch of bands tried to keep the spirit of the era alive, Gay Dad being one of them. The leader of the group was Cliff Jones, a music journalist for both Mojo and The Face.
They got off to a great start, becoming the first-ever band to get a slot on Top of the Pops without first releasing a record. Other British media outlets gave them great press, too. I still think this track from their 1999 album, Leisure Noise is really, really fun. And as you listen, note that Andy Bell—ex of Ride and later of both Oasis and Beady Eye—is playing guitar on this track.
