Lena Macdonald, writer & director of “MOM AND ME” joined us to talk about the documentary. MOM AND ME will premiere at the Hot Docs festival in Toronto in late April. Check below for schedule/tickets!
When she was two years-old Lena Macdonald’s mother basically left her and she raised by her father. When she was 17 Lena got a camera and began filming for efforts to find and save her mother who had become a very severe crack addict, prostitute, etc on the streets of downtown Toronto. MOM AND ME covers over ten years of filming–it is about like ‘Boyhood’ in that sense. Some of it is harrowing—Lena has to look in the back alleys of Toronto to find her often homeless mother. She follows her into crack houses and rehab facilities and a lot more. This is quite an amazing, very personal story.
