When Cage the Elephant decided to make a serious run at a music career, they relocated from Kentucky to England because that’s where all the action seemed to be. Besides, moving to a place that was totally different was great for breaking out of old habits and absorbing new influences. And it worked, really, really well—although there was that one moment where it almost went horribly, horribly wrong.
One night after a gig, the band was in their bus speeding down the highway. Bass player Dan Tichenor decided he needed to use the facilities, so he got up, walked to the back of the bus and opened the door. But that wasn’t the bathroom. That was the rear exit. He was in the process of stepping out the back door onto the pavement when the rest of the band grabbed him by his jacket and hauled in back in. That would have been messy.
