The worst thing that can happen to a band while they’re on tour–I mean, beside a member ODing in a bathroom next to a dead hooker–is to have all your gear stolen. Sadly, this happens far more frequently than you might realize. You park the truck or the trailer in the parking lot outside the venue or the hotel–and the next thing you know, everything you own is gone. And it happens to the best of them.
In 1995, Radiohead was on a major tour of the US when they stopped in Denver. Before they even had a chance to play the gig, all their stuff was suddenly gone. The show was cancelled and a few subsequent shows were played using instruments lent to them by Soul Asylum, their opening act. And Radiohead bore a grudge. They didn’t like playing Denver for a long time.
