If you’ve ever been to a White Stripes show, a Raconteurs gig or a solo show by Jack White, you may have noticed that all the stage roadies are dressed in black suits with white shirts, black ties and black fedoras. Why? That’s their uniform.
Jack White–a guy who has a thing for style–created the roadie uniform as part of the overall visual spectacle of his gigs. How do you tell the roadies apart? Look carefully at the hat. If it has a grey and yellow feather stuck in the brim, that’s a Raconteurs roadie. If it’s a blue feather, that’s a solo show. And Jack White isn’t the only guy to do this. Eddie Vedder likes his roadies to wear white lab coats while Peter Gabriel’s guys all used to wear orange jump suits.
