One of the most famous recording studios in the world—if not THE most famous studio—is Abbey Road in the St. John’s Wood area of London. Normally, the place is off-limits to all but employees and paying clients but now—thanks to a project with Google—you can take a virtual tour of the entire building.
The tour starts in Studio 1, which is reserved mainly for orchestral recordings of movie soundtracks. Most of the Harry Potter scores were done here as well as Star Wars. Studio 2 the most famous room because it’s where the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Oasis, Adele, Muse and so many others made legendary records. And then there’s Studio 3, a favourite spot for Florence + the Machine. It is a wonderful timesuck with all kinds of rat holes down which you can venture. And it’s totally free. Just Google “Inside Abbey Road,” put on some headphones and get started.
