Everyone knows Matt Bellamy as the main guy in Muse. But did you know that he’s also the son of a rock star? Well, sort of a rock star. Back in 1964, there was a single called “Telstar,” an instrumental inspired by the launch of the first communications satellite. The song was the brainchild of the crazy-insane British producer Joe Meek who hired a bunch of musicians as a vehicle for his vision.
The group he assembled was called The Tornados and together, they pushed the song to the top of the charts. In fact, “Telstar” was the first British single to reach #1 in the US. The guitarist in the Tornados was a guy named George Bellamy. This was the peak of his career, however, and he eventually retired from music to become a tradesmen. He married and had a son named Matt on June 9, 1978.
