Video gaming has always been a male dominated part of society, but there is still a fairly strong female gaming community. First, the NHL line of video games from EA Sports featured the ability to create a female player and now we have FIFA games which are going to revolutionize gaming.
Previously in sports games like FIFA, female game players were forced to play with men, only teams. Being sports fans, this was not all that bad, but it would have been nice to play as their favorite female players for once. Especially for me being a huge hockey and soccer fan, I enjoyed playing with Sidney Crosby, but it would have been very cool to play as Hayley Wickenheiser as well (Imagine that line combination).
Now there's going to be women in FIFA 16. Can they please change career mode so I can be female and not Mr Emma Allison 😂— Emma Allison (@Emma_Allison) May 28, 2015
FIFA, a line of gaming from EA Sports, produces an annual video game for soccer lovers which features the top leagues in the world from La Liga to the English Premier League, along with the option of international play.
In the 2016 edition of the game, a mode will be featured where you can play with Women’s International teams. A revolution into the world of gaming as women have not been integrated into sports games like they are about to be. Players of the game are now able to play with the Women’s International Teams featuring world-known superstars such as Canadian Christine Sinclair and United States goalkeeper star Hope Solo.
The new addition to the game has had a mix of various views from game players. With the more so extreme misogynists and sexists; with various statements on twitter who believe that women should not be allowed in the video game along with some believing that women even playing the game of soccer is ruining the sport.
There are also those more optimistic individuals who believe approach the addition with an open mind; they believe that the new game mode is good for exposure of the women’s game (which is VERY entertaining I may add), good for the game of soccer in general and good for the future of sports video games.
Are women coming on to FIFA 16, that's sick!— C-DOG (@conorrheadley) May 28, 2015
If women are gonna be in Fifa 16 I think that's great, would really get women's football on the radar— Nik (@joemonica_) May 28, 2015
Looks like women's leagues are going to be on Fifa 16, or at least the Fifa Women's World Cup, thoughts? I think it's epic personally— Niran | #ForzaJules (@TheOfficialFNG) May 28, 2015
Yes, the fans of women’s soccer compared to the men’s game is minuscule, but there is a reason behind that, the game has no exposure. If you actually sit down and watch one of the games, especially at the international level, it is extremely well played football and it is very entertaining to watch. With the addition of the Women’s International Teams into the game, it is going to bring the right exposure to the game of women’s soccer and will revolutionize the world of sports video games forever.
As a competitive female soccer player for over 14 years and quite a big fan of soccer. I too believe that this is great for the game.
