One of the most clever indie bands of the mid-oughts was Art Brut, band made up of some Brits and Germans living in Berlin. Taking their name from a form of outsider art—creations by prisoners, the mentally ill and other people from the margins of society—they became part of the scene that included Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand. Why these guys aren’t bigger than they are is a mystery to me. Maybe it is Eddie Argos’ singing voice (You’ll get the reference when you listen to this song). Here’s a slice of their fine 2005 debut album, Bang Band Rock & Roll.
