Obesity is one of the biggest health concerns in North America. Maybe it’s all the open space compared to our European neighbours that cause us to get bigger without worry, but in reality we shoulda be worried. In Canada, the rate of obesity in adults has grown steadily over the last decade. Part of this is because were so sensitive as a society to call an apple an apple. Telling someone they are obese and should probably be concerned about their health is now considered fat shaming when really obesity is a legitimate health concern that leads to numerous complications and is effecting more children and adults in our country than ever before. Genuinely being concerned about a person’s health and lifestyle is totally different from teasing them about their weight and shouldn’t be considered fat shaming. We as a nation have become increasingly unhealthy and inactive .Not even mentioning the U.S where obese people now outnumber overweight people, we need to look at this for what it is, a major health concern.
