Product placement in music videos is nothing new. People have been paying to have certain items show up in music videos since at least sometime in the 90s. But have you noticed old videos—music videos shot years ago—that are suddenly featuring more contemporary products? At least one major label has figured out a way to retroactively insert ads into old music videos as a way to monetize music that was thought to be maxed out. So don’t be surprised if you’re watching an old rap video on YouTube and you noticed that there’s a bottle of very new vodka dropped in there somewhere. Such is the music industry today.
