If you have ever looked out onto Lake Ontario after a storm and thought, “wow the water looks brown” it’s not because of stirred up dirt and mud. It’s raw sewage that is unable to be contained by our pipe system when there’s a high volume of rain. The sewage then seeps into the lake causing that lovely hue of brown. This is usually the reason why the beaches close. But to be frank, swimming in Lake Ontario at any time you’re doing so at your own risk. Even on a good day the water is still questionable. But swimming in sewage could help your immune system if you don’t mind the musty smell.
