When I first joined the radio station in 1986, this was one of the first records I remember playing. Maybe it was because I was stuck working the long overnight that the grinding, melancholy feel of this song appealed to me. Rose of Avalanche was a post-punk goth-ish band out of Leeds, England, who nailed an indie record deal without ever having played a gig. This track, “LA Rain,” was their first-ever single and reached #1 on the UK indie chart in 1985. The band broke up in 1993.
