Right from the start, with huge line-ups of buzzing fans wrapped around every end of the Air Canada Centre, it was clear that Imagine Dragons were going to put on a show to remember. Halsey started off the night with a bang, followed by Canadian favourites, Metric, heating up the crowd. Imagine Dragons were set to wow the audience touring with their latest album, Smoke + Mirrors…and wow the audience they did.
Opening the night with their single, “Shots”, the energy was through the roof and everyone could feel, including lead singer Dan Reynolds, who proceeded to run out to the very outskirts of the stage and interact with the crowd on the floor. In fact, he pretty much stayed out there for the entire show, spinning around and acknowledging every inch of the packed ACC. If there is one thing that Imagine Dragons are known for, it is that they are whole-heartedly grateful for every single crowd they play for. Pure joy radiated from each band member’s face as they sang along to every note.
Reynold’s mentioned that the Toronto show was an extra special night as the band planned a unique full-set, which they also chose to be filmed, featuring more songs than at any other show on the tour. Reynold’s said, “We wanted to do it in Toronto because we love the city, we love the people. Today might be the fourth of July but let me tell you, it doesn’t feel like that…it feels like Toronto Day.”
Continuing the show with many hits off their newest album, Imagine Dragons were certain not to miss any fan favourites from their debut album, Night Visions, playing live versions of “It’s Time, Demons, Bleeding Out”, and of course, “Radioactive”. For their “special” show, many more oldies were added and they even debuted some “never been performed” material.
Reynold’s expressed, “Leave everything at the door, just for tonight…be here. It’s all about the music tonight.” And that it was. The crowd was jumping, dancing, fist pumping, and smiling ear-to-ear through songs such as “On Top Of the World”.
Closing the night with “I Bet My Life” and “Radioactive”, Imagine Dragons were sure not to leave their fans hanging. Reynold’s ended the night by saying, “Let me just take this in for a second…people just expect us to be numb to this and get used to it…This means so much to us, I can’t tell you how much this means to us. Thank you for being here tonight!”
Imagine Dragons were sincerely able to bring the crowd together as one through their music and passion, making for a night that no one will soon forget.
