As a pretty big Jason Segel fan, I’m excited about the release of the trailer for his latest movie “The End of the Tour”. The movie’s based on a true story and follows young Rolling Stone magazine writer David Lipsky (portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg) as he spends 5 days with bestselling author David Foster Wallace (Segel) on the press tour for his novel “Infinite Jest”.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Infinite Jest, it’s over 1000 pages of pure genius. Seriously, this thing is not a light read (literally, its like a brick). David Foster Wallace was a complex, creative soul who eventually committed suicide in 2008. It’s safe to say this is going to be a bit of a dark film, but not without its lighter moments. It got great reviews at Sundance Film Festival back in January and there’s even buzz about Oscar nominations.
We all know Segel for combining full frontal nudity and a lavish puppet musical in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and portraying the caring, dopey husband in How I Met Your Mother. But judging by this trailer its clear we’ll see a whole new side of Jason (but don’t worry, not literally this time– I highly doubt there’s full frontal in this flick). And of course Eisenberg with his likeable awkwardness we remember from The Social Network, fits his role in this film perfectly. There’s something about Segel and Eisenberg in this trailer that just seems so real and relatable.
“The End of The Tour is set for limited release July 31st. Here’s to hoping it makes it’s way to TIFF this September!
