Weezer’s cover of Radiohead’s ‘Paranoid Android’ is incredibly performed. Whether or not you feel Rivers Cuomo’s voice compliments the song, the instrumentals in this cover are admirable. The greatest aspect of ‘Paranoid Android’ (and most Radiohead songs) is the feeling of discomfort and anxiety bottled up in calmly controlled verses with solo segments that erupt in both confusion and beauty. Weezer retained this stressful feeling and delivered both solos phenomenally, paying great tribute to the original. That is what makes this a fantastic cover, the calm build up of frustration and dissatisfaction in Thom Yorke’s lyrics with a violent release of calculated instrumentals show how talented Weezer is. The best part of this cover is the fact that it looks like an ordinary band practice for Weezer where they’re simply having fun playing a song that inspires them, when in reality they’re executing a top notch performance of one of Radiohead’s greatest hits. I don’t know about you, but I would pay to see this live.
