We’ve got some amazing news for you Nirvana fans: A Kurt Cobain solo album will be released on November 6th.
That’s the same day as the Montage of Heck documentary DVD release. This will include never-before-heard songs expressed in an intimate setting: just Kurt and his guitar. The documentary’s director Brett Morgen says “[it’s] curated to feel as though one were sitting in Kurt’s living room watching him create over the course of an afternoon”.
When Brett was researching extensively for the documentary, he discovered over 100 tapes with unreleased material. Brett says: “When I first heard it, I was in the storage facility and I had no prior knowledge of it. I put it on and I immediately felt like there was some sort of portal into his mind, like it was one of the most pure expressions of Kurt that I encountered — maybe more than in most of his songs”.
The album will include the music used in Montage of Heck, audio montages, a dozen additional tracks and even a comedy sketch.
Will you be getting your hands on a copy of Montage of Heck and Kurt’s solo album? The documentary has been nominated for several Emmy Awards – including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special.
