Rock stars spend so much time away from home that it’s understandable that they’d develop a certain level of expertise with restaurants and hotels. Maybe that’s why so many of them open places of their own.
U2 owns the Clarence Hotel in Dublin which features a couple of very fine eating establishments. Jim Kerr of Simple Minds is the owner of Hotel Villa Angela, a lovely place near Mount Etna in Italy.Iron Maiden’s management team has the Sanctum Soho Hotel in London. Chris Cornell—he of Soundgarden and Audioslave—has a restaurant called Black Calvados in a very swanky area of Paris. Michael Stipe has a vegetarian restaurant in Athens, Georgia, called The Grit. And then there’s Kate Pierson of the B52s. She has two places, the Lazy Meadow, a lodge in the Catskills and Lazy Desert, which features six vintage Airstream trailers in the Mojave Desert. Hey, you gotta make a living beyond record sales, right?
