‘When You Were Young’ is one of The Killers‘ most successful songs. It reached number 1 on the U.S. Billboard for alternative songs and was also nominated for multiple Grammy awards. The Noisettes are an indie pop-rock group from London, England who take a peculiar direction with their cover of ‘When You Were Young’. Right from the beginning of their performance you’re immediately disarmed by a softer and more intimate perspective on a song you’re all too familiar with. The use of violins rather than an electric guitar really sets you back for a moment to realize how beautiful of a song this really is. The lead singer’s variation of lyrics is fun and attention grabbing as if she’s telling the other half of this love story with lines such as “And I don’t look a thing like she does but I talk like a gentle soul, more than you’ll ever know”. I love it when an artist adds their own flair to a cover, but is it comparable to the original? I’ll let you be the judge of that.
