The Clash was one of the greatest rock’n’roll bands of all time. Unfortunately, they just sort of faded away after a critical line-up change in the middle 80s. For the next fifteen years, however, there were persistent rumours of a Clash reunion. Was there ever any truth to those stories? Apparently so. Sometime in about 1996 (or maybe it was 1997–no one really seems to remember), Joe Strummer got drunk with his former bandmates, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon.
They decided that it would be a riot of they formed what they called a Clash tribute band under the name “The Clish” and just started playing gigs. They even had designs on playing a pub in south London called the Amersham Arms. There might have even been a couple of rehearsals. But in the end, everyone sobered up, realized that they still couldn’t work together and the Clash reunion was aborted.
