September 25th seems to be THE DAY for new album releases. You can finally experience never-before-heard tracks by some incredible artists!
1. CHVRCHES: Every Open Eye
Every Open Eye is Chvrches’ sophomore album and has some of their most energetic, explosive and poetic songs yet! Come out and dance with them at Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall on October 4th and 5th.
2. DISCLOSURE: Caracal
Disclosure has recruited a bunch of high-profile musicians to sing in their second record Caracal, including Lorde and The Weeknd. According to them, “there’s not any really club music on this [album]. It’s all very club-influenced, because of the beats, but every song is like ‘Latch’ or ‘White Noise’ — a fully structured pop song”. Catch them on tour: they visit Toronto on October 17th!
3. THE DEAD WEATHER: Dodge And Burn
Dodge And Burn is The Dead Weather’s 3rd album (first release in 5 years)! Along with this release, they’ve been putting out a slew of music videos and music lessons by the members, and making live performance appearances. Fun fact: Jack White has been sporting the same iconic haircut as he did when the first White Stripes album that came out in 1999.
4. SILVERSUN PICKUPS: Better Nature
Better Nature is finally here! It’s been nearly 10 years since the release of the band’s successful debut album Carnavas, which included songs like “Lazy Eye” and “Well Thought Out Twinkles” that brought the band to stardom. Expect the classic Silversun Pickups sound in this LP but on a louder and more epic scale.
5. BIG GRAMS: Big Grams
Big Boi (one half of Outkast) and Phantogram have teamed up as Big Grams and their self-titled EP is now here! The EP also includes visits from Skrillex and Run The Jewels. What kind of sound can we expect from all these artists? “It’s kind of a taste of ideas. It’s not Big Boi and Phantogram music. It’s Big Grams, which is different. It’s a whole different project. It’s stuff that we wouldn’t put on our own records, but just kind of something completely different so you get a taste of. There’s songs that I rap on, there’s songs that Big sings on. There’s songs that Josh raps on. It doesn’t sound pretentious in any way, because we just wanted to do whatever the f— we wanted to do.” – Phantogram’s Sarah Barthel
6. MATTHEW GOOD: Chaotic Neutral
Can you believe it’s been more than 20 years since the release of Matthew Good’s debut album?! Crazy!
Matthew Good is back at it with a 10th solo album. He’ll be making a long stop here in Toronto, playing on December 3rd, 4th and 5th at Danforth Music Hall.
7. NEW ORDER: Music Complete
This is New Order’s impressive TENTH album, and their first full length album in ten years! In ‘Restless’, the band contemplates life in the modern world, and instead of leaning towards one sound as they tended to do, it’s a blend of rock and electronic. Catch them playing at the Sony Centre in Toronto on October 23 or 24th!
8. KURT VILE: b’lieve i’m goin down
b’lieve i’m goin down is Kurt Vile’s 6th album. He gave a great performance last night on Conan to promote the album and will be stopping by Toronto to do so as well, on October 25th!
9. JR JR (formerly Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr): JR JR
Not only has the duo returned with an album, they’re out with a new band name. The former one was confusing people with a race car driver. Zott explained that the “band name became like this extra member of the band that wasn’t contributing so we felt like we had to kick him out”. What’s more is that while they’ve stayed true to their sound, it’s also more focused, confident and smoother album.
10. THE DEARS: Times Infinity Volume One
