We’re back at the beginning of this perpetual alphabetical spin through everything in my personal record collection. And here in “A” we find Abecedarians, a New Wave-y post-punk band out of Los Angeles that, for a while, found favor with the Depeche Mode Crowd of the era. (I think they even toured with them at least once.) Their biggest hit was their first recording, a 12-inch single called “Smiling Monarchs” released in April 1985. Back in the Spirit of Radio days, this was a major, major hit for the station.
