Question: Who is the richest rock star in the world? Answer: It depends who you ask. According to The Mirror, the British newspaper, the answer is Bono. They base their calculations on Bono’s purchase of 2.3% of Facebook in 2009 through his investment company, Elevation Partners. Those shares are now worth somewhere around $2 billion Canadian. Add in his net worth from U2 and you come up with a figure in the $2.5 billion range.
Or do you? Forbes—a magazine that keeps close tabs on business—begs to differ. That 2.3% share of Facebook does not belong to just Bono; he shares it with all his business partners. That’s makes a big difference in the overall calculation of his net worth. Forbes says that Paul McCartney is still the richest with about $1.4 billion Canadian while U2 as a whole—all four of them—is worth just $750 million or so. Still, no one’s crying for Bono, right?
