Here are some miscellaneous Coldplay facts: (1) Singer Chris Martin and drummer Will Champion played university level field hockey. They’re apparently rather good—or at least they were. (2) They were not the first band called Coldplay. There was another group from the same school–the University College of London—that had the name first. But then they broke up, leaving the name in limbo. That’s when Chris Martin snatched it for his group—with their permission, of course. (3) This Coldplay also kept up their studies. The group contains people with degrees in astronomy, ancient world studies and anthropology. (4) They figured that the Parachutes album would sell between 40 and 50,000 copies. Instead, it sold more than 5 million. And (5) since then, Coldplay has sold more than 30 million records.
