Cage the Elephant are releasing their fourth album, Tell Me I’m Pretty, on December 18th, 2015. It’s going to be unlike their other records: they’ve started fresh, with a fresh sound, and a fresh addition to the team: Dan Auerbach of The Black Key as producer.
Their last record, to them, was a “living hell”. They were going through some tough times, which eventually led to the departure of lead guitarist Lincoln Parish. With Dan Auerbach on this record, they’ve done things differently… before takes, they would listen to garage-rock records and afrobeat to get themselves out of their comfort zones and stay creative, they’d keep first-take vocals whether the band liked it or not, and Auerbach even played some guitar and keyboard on the record.
Taken this all in, you can expect Tell Me I’m Pretty to be everything from “psychedelic bubblegum pop to the spare tautness of the Black Keys” (Rolling Stone). Stay tuned for more info as it’s predicted that their first single will be coming very soon! You can also get some more info on the record here.
How did that partnership start anyways? Cage The Elephant’s guitarist, Brad Schultz, still seems to be a bit embarrassed about it: “I was like, ‘Let me show you some songs, dude! We gotta do some tracks together!’ Typical stuff – I was really wasted”. Don’t worry, brad – we’ve all been there one way or another.
