If there’s a band with more lives than a cat, it has to be the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They’ve had eight guitarists (two of them joining, quitting and re-joining and then quitting again) and five changes on drummer involving four different guys. Then there are all the drug overdoses and multiple near-death experiences involving Anthony Kiedis and John Fruisciante and the actual death of guitarist Hillel Slovak. Add in the motorcycle accidents (involving Anthony and drummer Chad Smith), Anthony’s bout with dengue fever after being bitten by a leech in Borneo plus the broken back he got jumping off a roof–well, you get the idea. Bands are lucky to have a second act in their careers. The Chili Peppers have had dozens of second chances. Amazing.
