Here’s a band that I wish had stuck around longer. John Critchley formed 13 engines with four York University buddies in 1985 and released a debut cassette the following year. A bunch of indie releases followed before they signed to a major label and broke through with this record, Perpetual Motion Machine, in 1993. The Tragically Hip was huge supporters of these guys. But the music business being what it is, the group dissolved by 1997. Last I heard, John was scoring movies and TV shows.
