You may know this song by the cover the Red Hot Chili Peppers recorded for the Beavis and Butthead soundtrack in 1998. The original is by the Ohio Players (from Dayton, Ohio, by the way) who recorded it in the fall of 1975. There’s a long-standing urban legend about the song. About a minute-and-a-half into the single version of song, there’s a high-pitched scream. Legend has it that this was the sound of (a) someone actually being murdered in the studio; or (b) someone falling off a rollercoaster to their death. Neither story is true, of course, but the band kept quiet for yeas because it helped them sell a whole lot more records.
