Alright, lets do this.. we’re going to look back on some of my favourite albums of 2015. The criteria is this.. the record had to come out in 2015 and I had to love it.. that’s it..
Day 11 – Record 11
DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE – KINTSUGI
Death Cab for Cutie are an interesting band, going all the way back to when they stepped out into the spotlight with their guest starring spot on “The OC”. Remember? They played The Bait Shop..
I can’t believe Seth missed it either!
Anyway, they played the old Edge 228 Yonge Studio shortly after that and were.. umm.. less than engaging guests. Never-The-Less the songs we’re good and have stood up over more than a decade. Certainly more-so than reruns of the OC..
In 2015 Death Cab were very much in flux, between Chris Walla departing the band and front-man Ben Gibbard getting divorced from fellow hipster idol Zooey Deschanel it would have been pretty easy for the Death Cab crew to rest on the laurels. That was NOT what they did. Kintsugi is an ambitious, smart, well crafted, easy listen that features some the bands best efforts, especially lyrically. Things seemed dark for DCFC but like they suggested they’d do for us once upon a time, we followed them into that darkness and came out the other side with possibly the bands best album to date.
Also, Death Cab were nominated for a Grammy award for the album, AND just today announced they’ll play March 23rd 2016 with Metric at the ACC!
The Ghosts of Beverly Drive
You’ve Haunted Me All My Life
The countdown continues tomorrow when we crack the top 10!
