The holiday season means one thing – boozing with friends and family. And Fred and Mel have their favourite Holiday cocktails to get you through this season looking like an expert mixologist!
Mel likes to put a steaming pot of this on the stove every year – a trick that is sure to make any Grinch’s heart grow 3 sizes! Everyone has their own secret to making the perfect cup of mulled wine but general ingredients are apple cider, one bottle of red wine (this is your chance to use up any of that cheap stuff you were given as a gift this season), honey, cinnamon sticks, oranges, cloves and star anise (those pretty little spices that taste like licorice but make your pot look like the starry sky). Garnish with a twist of orange peel and you’ve got Christmas in a cup!
Kick your regular Eggnog up a notch with Fred’s favourite holiday drink! Just add 1 part Jagermeister to 2 parts Eggnog. Throw in a dash of cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg and you’ve got a party in a cup!
HOT BUTTERED RUM
If those frigid blizzards roll in and despite the fire roaring you’re still feeling those winter chills – make yourself a cup of this stuff and you’ll heat up in no time. All you’ll need to make this drink is run, butter, hot apple cider and a stick of cinnamon to give it that extra kick to warm up those toes!
Need a little pick me up Christmas morning after all the presents have been opened and the kids are off playing with their new toys? Whip up this little concoction – a blend of coffee, Grand Marnier, brown sugar, topped with a generous portion of whipped cream. Add a bright red maraschino cherry and sprig of mint for that extra Christmasy touch. Who needs breakfast when you’ve got this little cup of happiness.
Finally, if all that Christmas cheer and trips down the toboggan hill have got you feeling under the weather – this is the pick-me-up drink to get you back on your feet. Just take a nice bottle of Scotch, a little tablespoon of honey, a squeeze of lemon and some bowling water and you’ve got yourself a sweet little treat to put you to sleep.
