Alright, lets do this.. we’re going to look back on some of my favourite albums of 2015. The criteria is this.. the record had to come out in 2015 and I had to love it.. that’s it..
Day 3 – Record 3
TWENTY ONE PILOTS – BLURRYFACE
This one is easy. My favourite newly embraced band in 2015 was Twenty One Pilots. I’d heard their tunes before and they were always pretty good but didn’t jump out at me. Vessel was a cool record and ‘House of Gold’ was obviously great.. but I wasn’t overwhelmed..
Again, cool song.. but I wasn’t obsessed with the band the way I was immediately upon hearing ‘Tear In My Heart’… that song jumped out of the speakers and punched me directly in the face and I HAD TO KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BAND NOW!! What I came to discover with the release of Blurryface was that Twenty One Pilots are exciting, risk taking rock n roll pioneers. It’s a very new age for the way people make and consume music and Twenty One Pilots dive head first into the pool of embracing that. The songs are like their own mini records within the album. Its all Twenty One Pilots but its all so different, unique and fun. No it’s not the straightforward guitar rock I love from bands like the Gaslight Anthem or Alabama Shakes but it is rock n roll and it is kick ass.
