I saw some movies over the holiday break.. One I’m obsessed with, one I HATED and one that is truly one of the best films I’ve ever seen and you need to see it immediately..
Lets start with my obsession because this is easy.. it’s Star Wars The Force Awakens. It’s everything we wanted, I’ve seen it a couple times and it just gets better and better.. see it.
A movie I hated.. The Hateful 8.. might as well make it the Hateful 9.. what a huge piece of crap.. starts promising then grinds to a long-winded boring, nonsensical halt. People praise because it’s Tarantino so it must be brilliant. It’s not. None of it makes any sense. It’s just people sitting around rambling about nothing while you sit there begging for something to happen. ‘I hate black people (Taratino uses language I’ll choose not to) I’d never acknowledge a black man let alone talk to one” “Can I sit with you” “YA! Lets have a full conversation after not 10 minutes ago I dropped the N bomb on you 20 times and said I want to kill you because you’re black”. Flat out it sucks. And I’m all about finding the good in things.. I truly believe it’s better to find the good in art because encouraging artists leads to more chances for them to create things the world loves but at some point you have to say enoughs enough. What a piece of crap..
Finally a film you must see because it’s as good as movies get.. Spotlight. Heavy, heavy subject matter Spotlight is about the investigative journalists at the Boston Globe in the early 2000s looking into child molestation perpetrated by Priests in the Boston area and systemically covered up by the Catholic Church. Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams & Mark Ruffalo are particularly fantastic in the flick. Like I said it’s heavy and brought tears to my eyes more than once. You may need a stiff drink when it’s over but it’s an outstanding film and very much worth your time. One of the best I’ve ever seen.
Go see a movie.
